RFNSW believes it is important to acknowledge those who have accomplished noteworthy achievements in the road freight industry in NSW. These extraordinary individuals work hard every day to go above and beyond. The RFNSW awards endeavour to identify and spotlight individuals that have displayed exemplary standards, as well as encourage others to continue striving for higher levels of excellence throughout the state.
Long term participation in NSW road transport with a personal and/or organisational commitment to achieving positive benefits for the industry through actions. A proven commitment to raising both community and industry awareness and appreciation of trucking. A selfless attitude that has resulted in personal cost, in the case of an individual. In the case of an organisation, a commitment to achieving benefits for road transport that has incurred an organisational cost. A reputation for integrity and ethical behaviour.
A high degree of pride in their personal presentation and their vehicle’s presentation. A high degree of skill and experience in freight handling relevant to their field. A professional attitude towards their job, their customers and the industry as a whole. A strong interest in furthering the professional image of the industry, as demonstrated by their actions and interests. In addition, all nominations for NSW Professional Driver of the Year must be accompanied by a copy of their road agency traffic record.

A strong commitment to developing a safer road transport in NSW and improving heavy vehicle maintenance. Sound knowledge and experience of technical, maintenance, and safety in the workshop. Devotion to finding best practices in trucking technology and maintenance to help improve trucking equipment and transportation efficiencies throughout the state. A proven commitment in the management of vehicle fleets and improved safety outcomes.

Communication – there is effective communication in the workplace and people feel confident to discuss both physical & psychological safety. Interpersonal relationships – there is an environment of support for workers both personally and professionally. Interactions are supportive and respectful. RFNSW 2018 award winner takes out national award
Leigh Smart from Formula Chemicals won the 2018 Road Freight NSW award for Outstanding Contribution to the Trucking Industry and went on to take out the national award in April 2019.
